Audrey Hepburn – A Short Bio - Audrey Hepburn was born in Belgium, before her family moved to Netherlands where she spent her formative years under the cloud of the Second World War and the impending German hostilities. The hardships that she endured in these early years, including her parent’s divorce are known to have shaped her personality for the years to come.

Audrey was a ballet dancer as a young child, however since she was taller than most of her male counterparts, she was deemed unfit to be a professional ballet dancer. Despite this initial setback, Audrey started her acting career in London with small roles in plays. She also started modeling to ensure a steady influx of money. Her theatre stint also saw her travelling to New York, enabling her first brush with Hollywood.

Audrey’s stellar performance in ‘’Roman Holiday’ alongside Gregory peck saw her being catapulted into the major league. She won an Academy award for her performance in the movie. Her next big successes came with ‘’Sabrina’ and the comedy, ‘Paris, When it Sizzles’.

Audrey successfully juggled both theatre and movies in her career. Audrey had two marriages both of which ended in divorce; the first with actor Mel Ferrer and the second with Andrea Dotti.  At the time of her death in 1993, she was close to a Dutch actor, Robert Wolders.

Audrey’s early childhood experiences under the Nazi occupation had strengthened her resolve to helping children, especially those in impoverished countries. Audrey was appointed as Special Ambassador to the UNICEF, and she spent many years of her life, working dedicatedly for the cause she truly believed in.
